About this forum
This is a community forum for people who use, build, and run things on Nostr. Whether you are taking your first steps with keys and zaps, ship relays and clients, design protocols, or are simply curious about where the network is heading, you will find a room here for the conversation.
What is Nostr?
Nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is an open protocol for decentralized social communication. There is no central server and no company in control: you own a keypair, your posts are signed events, and relays pass them around. That simplicity makes Nostr a fertile ground for experimentation, and this forum is a place to do that thinking out loud, together.
To learn more, browse the NIPs, the specifications that define the protocol, or visit njump.me for a friendly introduction to the network.
What we talk about
The forum is organized into rooms so that discussion stays focused:
- Agora: open conversation about Nostr. News, opinions, links, and questions that do not fit elsewhere. Also the place to send feedback about this community.
- Help: questions about using Nostr. Keys and backups, choosing a client, notes that do not appear, zaps that do not work. No question is too basic here.
- Protocol: NIPs, relays, and implementation. Spec discussion, proposals, building on Nostr.
- Apps: Nostr apps: clients, extensions, relays, anything you use. Releases, showcases, reviews, feedback for developers.
- Relays: running a relay. Spam and moderation policy, storage, performance, costs, monetization.
How it works
Discussions are long-form threads you can follow and search, with a live chat sidebar for quick back-and-forth. Everything is built on open Nostr standards, so your identity and your posts are portable: they are not locked inside this site. Sign in with your Nostr key, join a room, and you are ready to take part.
Feedback about the forum itself (ideas, complaints, things that feel off) belongs in the Agora room.
Use it from any Nostr client
This forum is not a walled garden. The rooms are standard NIP-29 groups hosted on the relay wss://relay.nostr-proto.org, and every thread and chat message is a plain Nostr event. Any client that supports NIP-29 groups, such as Flotilla or Nostrord, can join the same conversations: add the relay address in your client, pick the rooms you care about, and you will read and write the very same messages you see here. This website, which runs on Squalk, is just one door to the community; your key opens all of them.
A community, not a feed
This forum favors depth over noise. We would rather have one thoughtful thread than ten throwaway hot takes. Be generous with your knowledge, credit the work of others, and keep the tone welcoming.
Before posting, take a moment to read the Guidelines: they describe the simple etiquette that keeps this place worth coming back to.
Welcome aboard, and happy building.
