Pick a tag when you open a discussion

• news — something happened, and people should know.
• question — you want an answer, or at least an opinion.
• meta — feedback about this forum: rooms, rules, the software.

The tag is the first thing people scan in the list, so choose it with care.

House style

• One topic per discussion. If a reply wanders somewhere new and interesting, open a new discussion and link back. Threads that try to be about everything end up being about nothing.
• Links come with a reason. A bare URL is easy to skip; one sentence on why it matters is not.
• Search first. If the topic already exists, reply there. Context is precious and scattering it is a waste.
• Chat is for the quick stuff. The panel on the side is perfect for a joke or a did you see this?. Discussions are for what is worth finding again next month.
