Any experience with Cloudflare relays?

Sep 18, 2026

Title pretty much says it all, I'm interested in setting up a personal relay to mirror my content on, and saw there were a couple projects that used Cloudflare workers to host a relay. Has anyone experimented with hosting a relay on a free Cloudflare account, and if so, which project did you use and how'd it go?

I'm also interested in this matter, following.

Attackers use them to spam/DoS, we've got the IP space for them blocked at the firewall level. You'll probably need it tightly scoped to only your writes to be useful. I'd imagine other relay operators have had to take similar actions in blocking them that will make them dodgy for subscribing to bigger relays.

Tried Bothy with some mixed luck. It's sorta what I was looking for: outbox/DM relay for just myself and optionally anyone I follow or add manually. It's default max subscriptions per request and max filters per request are low enough I'd get rate limited on Amythest the second I'd connect to it. Upped those and it seems to be hosting public events 100% perfectly 65% of the time. Private data (DMs, Nmail, White Noise) seems to work 100% perfectly 0% of the time.

Would be tempted to try Nosflare, which seems to work best in the paid Cloudflare workers pla . But I'd be afraid of Cloudflare's no upper limit on overage charges. One angry bot and my $5 bill could have some extra zeros.
