Welcome to Protocol
Welcome to Protocol, where Nostr gets argued into shape. NIPs, relays, implementations, edge cases nobody thought about, and reports from the trenches of actually building on this thing.
Pick a tag when you open a discussion
-
question— you want to understand how something is specified or implemented. -
proposal— you want to change a NIP, or write a new one. Problem first, solution second. -
report— clients or relays disagree, or the spec turns out to be ambiguous in practice.
Titles
When the discussion is about a specific NIP, start the title with its number: NIP-29: group admin events and relay-side moderation. The tag says what kind of post it is; the number keeps everything about that NIP together when someone searches for it later.
Writing a post people will actually read
- Link the NIP or the pull request you are talking about. Do not make readers guess.
- Quote the exact text you are questioning. Select it in a post and use Quote, and the reply carries its context.
- Events go in code blocks as JSON, not as screenshots. Nobody enjoys retyping a tag array.
- Keep proposals focused. One change per discussion gets evaluated; a bundle of five gets postponed.
This room is the workshop next door to the nostr-protocol/nips repository. Ideas can start rough here, get sharpened, and move to a pull request once they hold up.
New here? Welcome to the deep end. You do not need to have written a NIP to join in. A sharp question about one is often the most useful post in the thread.
